Don't Look Back (1968)
Here's a good interview with the producer, D.A. Pennebaker. He's well known in documentary film circles. We'll talk a little bit about cinema verite this week, a movement for which Pennebaker was a noted practitioner/developer.

The Freedom Riders (2011)
Only 5 people completed watching Stanley Morgan's The Freedom Riders. That is unacceptable. Please tell bosses, family, friends, etc., that you are paying to enroll in a class from 5:00-7:45 on Thursday nights, and that (amazingly) your instructor requires your attendance at said class.

Here's a piece written in the last 1970s on the Diggers, who operated the free kitchens in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury (and did much of the cooking for Woodstock's 400,000 attendees). I love the inventive playfullness, standard for the Diggers, of the title: Deep Tried Frees:

Here's some info on the People's Park today, which is still around. First is it's website:

Next is a 1999 article from the San Francisco Chronicle (San Fran's largest newspaper):

Woodstock (1970)
Post a 3-400 word response on Woodstock, directed by Michael Wadleigh. Here's an interview with Wadleigh from 1970, just as Woodstock was being released. It's an interesting take on the concert and the rise of music:

Here's a clip of Steve Earle playing a Townes song. This was sung during his recent concert promoting an album full of Townes songs. (The two were close enough that Earle named his son, JT, after Townes (Justin Townes Earle).) It's a nice comment on Townes' traveling lifestyle (the song he plays into at the 5:30 mark is a Van Zandt inspired song written by Steve Earle): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKiVsUwVi1c&feature=related
